Frequently Asked Questions:
A Guide for Families
Q: How do I complete my volunteer hours?
A: Each family is required to complete five hours during the Queen of Heaven Carnival and an additional five hours during a school event. At the beginning of the year, families completed a form requesting specific events. As these events approach, you will be contacted by the committee chair. If you have questions, Becky Lombardo (VP of HSG) organizes the volunteers.
Q: What carnival counts for each school year?
A: The Queen of Heaven Carnival each summer connects to the upcoming school year. The 2018 carnival will include five hours for the 2018-2019 school year.
Q: We are not going to be in town for the carnival. What do we do?
A: There are several pre-carnival events that families can do to fulfill their volunteer hours. This includes selling tickets at masses and local businesses, setting up tents, etc.
Q: What does the HSG actually do?
A: The Home School Guild serves as a connection between (you guessed it!) home and school. We are responsible for meeting our annual commitment to the parish and also for helping to foster a positive culture in our school family community. Our by-laws are available on the main page of this site.
Q: I keep hearing about this "sweepstakes" event. What exactly is it?
A: Our sweepstakes event is our major fundraiser that takes place each spring. Each family is responsible for selling tickets to the event. This year, the event will take place at the Grapevine Banquet Facility on Saturday, April 28th. We sell tickets to the event itself and also as many $10 non-event raffle tickets as we can to make money. The raffle consists of $15,000 in cash prizes. The more tickets we sell, the better our profits. At the event, dinner and drinks are served. There is a silent auction of student-made artwork, many theme baskets, and other games of chance.
